FORT WORTH   It was a quiet game through the first four innings at Lupton Stadium Sunday in front of a crowd of 3,404 Horned Frog fans.  Air Force Catcher Garrett Custons started things off in a big way with a solo home run to left field in the top of the fifth.  A single through the left side by Center Fielder Nathan Carter brought in Second Baseman Blair Roberts to put the Falcons up 2-0.  TCU evened the score in their half of the inning.  After doubling down the left field line, and stealing third base, Shortstop Taylor Featherston scored on a sac fly by Third Baseman Jantzen Witte to cut Air Force's lead in half.  A single to left field by Brance Rivera scored Aaron Schultz to tie the game.  The Falcons regained the lead in the top of the sixth with what would turn out to be their last run of the game.  Third Baseman K. J. Randhawa scored on a throwing error by Jerome Pena to take a one-run lead, 3-2.  The TCU bats came alive in the bottom of the seventh.  After loading the bases, a walk to Catcher Bryan Holaday brought in Featherston, followed by a sac fly by Jason Coats that plated pinch hitter Zac Jordan.  The clincher came in the bottom of the eighth off the bat of Jerome Pena who went yard to center field.  TCU scored five runs on five hits, and had two errors, while the Falcons put up three runs on six hits with no errors.  The Frogs travel to San Antonio Tuesday night before returning home for their final home stand of the 2010 season against Cal State Bakersfield.  Game times are Thursday at 11:00 a.m, Friday at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

FORT WORTH   After a rain delay, the Horned Frogs rallied to win Game One Friday night, 19-17 in 12 innings, against the Falcons of the United States Air Force Academy.  With Freshman phenom Matt Purke throwing 12 strikeouts, the TCU Horned Frogs secured the 2010 MWC title with a 17-4 regular season record.  TCU went on to win the second game of the double-header 8-2 behind the outstanding pitching of Kyle Winkler.  Winkler allowed only two runs on nine hits, struck out six, and walked one in eight innings of work.  The Falcons struck first in Game Three with a solo homerun by First Baseman Addison Gentry.  TCU answered back in the bottom of the second when a double by Right Fielder Brance Rivera to left field line brought in Center Fielder Aaron Schultz.  Both teams were quiet in the third, fourth, and fifth innings before another solo homerun, this time by Center Fielder Nathan Carter, put the Falcons up 2-1.  The seventh and eighth innings passed uneventfully.  Air Force went for the win in the top of the ninth as a triple by Catcher Garrett Custons brought in Second Baseman Blair Roberts and Center Fielder Nathan Carter to take the lead 4-1.  Shortstop Taylor Featherston started the TCU ninth with a single to shortstop.  Catcher Bryan Holaday followed with a single through the left side to put two on with Matt Curry at the plate.  Curry flied out to right field, but allowed Featherston to score to cut the Falcons' lead to 4-2.  Left Fielder Jason Coats singled to right center moving Holaday to second base.  Jimmie Pharr came in to it at DH for Josh Elander, but popped up to shortstop to hand Air Force only their second conference win this season.  The first win came against the Horned Frogs in Colorado Springs on March 26 in a 14-11 loss for TCU.  Despite the disappointing loss, the Frogs were able to celebrate a season-record as Matt Curry hit his 24th double of the year.  The Frogs and Falcons will wrap-up the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.

COMMERCE  It was an exciting Day One at the UIL 3A Track and Field Regional at Texas A&M-Commerce with the prelims of both the track and field events.  Mother Nature chose to put a big kink in the schedule when storms started rolling through northeast Texas around 8 p.m.  As the severe weather sirens began to go off in Commerce, everyone was told to evacuate the stadium due to lightning in the area.  The weather delay lasted until 11 pm when the event was called to a close due to UIL regulations stating the events could not go past midnight.  The prelims that were left were scheduled for 9 AM Tuesday morning.

ALLEN  The Allen Event Center was sold out, as 6,003 fans were on hand the watch game five of the Americans' series with the Rapid City Rush, whose winner will claim the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup.  The Rush found the net first as forward Derek Campbell put the puck past the goalie at 3:10 in the first period.  Rapid City went up 2-0 five minutes later with a goal by Les Reaney.  A hair past nine minutes into the first period, Justin Bowers knocked in a wrist shot to cut the lead to 2-1.  At the end of the first period, the teams were tied at 2-2.  The Rush kept Allen quiet as they scored three more second period goals to increase their lead to 5-2 with one period of play remaining.  Even after replacing goalies, the Americans got nothing done in the third period of play while allowed Rapid City two more goals in their 7-2 victory.  The Americans traveled to Rapid City Tuesday night for Game 6 where they fought valiantly through two overtimes, before finally succumbing to Rapid City 4-3.  Allen finished with a 42-17-5 record in their inaugural season.  The Americans also won two play-off series and captured the title of 2010 Southern Conference Champions!

FORT WORTH  To the delight of 3,217 fans, the Frogs didn't allow UNLV to get a lead on them in the series closer Sunday afternoon.  Both teams were held scoreless through the first inning before TCU took a one run lead in the bottom of the second after a sac fly by Taylor Featherston brought home Matt Curry who was waiting on third after his own double down the right field line and fly out to right center by Josh Elander.  Ater tripling down the right field line in the bottom of the third, Jerome Pena put the Frogs up by two runs after a sac fly by Aaron Schultz.  Pena then scored again in the bottom of the fifth on a single up the middle by Brance Rivera.  After pulling a walk in the sixth inning, Curry stole second base, advanced to third on a single by Elander, and then stole home to put the Frogs up 4-0.  A lone run in the seventh by Rivera had TCU up by five until UNLV's catcher, Drew Beuerlein, scored in the top of the eighth after reaching base on a hit-by-pitch.  That was the Rebels' only run of the game as TCU put two more runs up in the bottom of the eighth compliments of Featherston and Kyle VonTungeln.  TCU will host Baylor on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m, and then travel to Waco for the completion of the home and home series Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.  The Frogs will then take to the road for two straight road series against Utah and New Mexico.

FORT WORTH  Game Two of the three-game series against UNLV was packed with long balls as each of TCU's nine runs were earned on six homers.  TCU struck early and hard with two homers in the bottom half of the third inning.  Right Fielder Josh Elander was the first Horned Frog to go yard to left center bringing in First Baseman Matt Curry to put TCU up 2-0.  The Rebels tied the game in the top half of the fourth.  Lead-off hitter Brandon Bayardi doubled to right field and then scored when Third Baseman RJ Arnold doubled to right field again.  A sac grounder by Nolan Clark brought home Arnold.  The Frogs quickly regained the lead as Shortstop Taylor Featherston sent the ball out of the park in the top of the fourth.  In Friday night's game, TCU broke open the scoring deficit in the sitxth inning.  Saturday UNLV's lucky number was seven as the Rebels racked up four runs in the seventh to ead 8-5.  After UNLV Shortstop Richie Jimenez scored on a single to left field by Center Fielder Jarred Frierson, Designated Hitter Drew Beuerlein slammed a three-run homer over the right-center wall.  Undaunted, TCU patiently waited their turn at a come-from-behind victory.  Elander started things off in the eighth with a single to the shortstop and was able to advance to second on a throwing error.  Featherston then sent his second long-ball of the game over the left field fence to bring in Elander and leave the Frogs within one of UNLV 8-7.  The Horned Frog faithful that stayed until the ninth inning were rewarded with quite a display.  Catcher Bryan Holaday singled to left center and was replaced by pinch runner Kyle VonTungeln.  Matt Curry then wowed the crowd, and himself, with his first-ever career walk-off homer to center field to squeeze the Frogs past UNLV 9-8.  "A win like this gets us fired up to play tomorrow and we know we can win at any time," said Curry.  TCU will try for the clean sweep of the Rebels tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.

FORT WORTH  –  No. 8 TCU hosted MWC 3rd place UNLV for the first of a three-game series Friday night at Lupton Stadium in front of a crowd of 2,574.  After OU ended the Frog's seven-game winning streak Tuesday night, TCU was looking to get back on the winning track before the home crowd.  The win raises the Frogs to 15-3 at home while the loss is the third straight loss for UNLV.  What has been an Achilles heel to UNLV continued to plague them as TCU was able to figure out the Rebels' pitching halfway through the game.  The Rebels started the scoring in the top of the second inning.  Left Fielder Brandon Bayardi came in on a single by Catcher Nolan Clark.  Third Baseman Travis Feiner scored on a double down the right field line by Right Fielder Cash Thomas.  Clark put up the Rebels' third run after a sac grounder by Shortstop Richie Jimenez.  TCU Catcher Bryan Holaday sent a single to left field that brought in the Frogs' first two runs of the game as Brance Rivera and Aaron Schultz both crossed the plate.  The Rebels put up two more runs in the top of the sixth to increase their lead to 5-2 before TCU broke the game open in the bottom half of the inning.  The Frogs appeared near unstoppable as they racked up five runs.  A double down the left field line by Left Fielder Jason Coats brought in Brance Rivera to start things off.  Holaday then scored on a wild pitch and a single up the middle by Shortstop Jerome Pena, who was 0-10 before the hit, plated Designated Hitter Josh Elander and Coats.  Pena then came in for the final run of the inning after a throwing error by the Rebels' center fielder.  The Frogs allowed no more runs for the Rebels while UNLV's bullpen struggled to contain TCU.  Coats, First Baseman Matt Curry, Pena and Elander added four runs in the bottom of the seventh to lead 11-5.  The first two of four more runs in the bottom of the eighth came from bat of Jason Coats whose triple to left center scored Holaday and pitch hitter Zac Jordan.  Coats then scored on a single by pitch hitter Jimmie Pharr.  Joe Weik, who pitch hit for Curry, rounded out the Frogs' rout of UNLV when he crossed the plate after pitch hitter Davy Wright grounded out to second base.  TCU now holds a 24-12 lead in the all-time series against UNLV.  The Frogs are back in action Saturday at 4:30 p.m. to attempt to go up 2-0 in the series.

FORT WORTH  After a clean sweep of Houston this past weekend, the Horned Frogs returned to Lupton Stadium for a mid-week contest against the Aggies.  A single-game record crowd of 4,375 were on hand as the Frogs climbed to 14-3 at home, and Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle gained his 275th win with TCU.  The Frogs move to 24-7 on the season as A&M holds a 20-11-1 record so far.  The win marked the first victory against the Aggies since May 12, 1995.  TCU jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first with two runs.  A lone run in the bottom of the fourth would see the Frogs lead 3-0 before starting pitcher Paul Gerrish gave up his only run of the game got in the top of the fifth.  That would be all the Frogs would allow the Aggies to put up before adding two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the bottom of the seventh to seal the home victory for TCU.  Tyler Lockwood pitched 4.2 innings for the win allowing only three hits and no runs.  Before tonight's game, A&M held a 3-0 series record since renewing the rivalry three years ago.  A&M holds an all-time record of 159-86-4 in 249 meetings.  TCU travels to Provo, Utah to face BYU this Thursday (7 pm), Friday (7 pm), and Saturday (2 pm) before returning home to host Dallas Baptist next Tuesday at 6:30 pm.

DALLAS  ...if it does turn out to be the end of #9's illustrious career.  Modano, who moved with the then Minnesota North Stars to North Texas to become the Dallas Stars in 1993, had the honors of the game-tying and the game winning goals over Anaheim.  Modano, along with long-time teammates Marty Turco and Jere Lehtinen who may have seen their final home games as well, gave exceptional performances in front of an appreciative crowd of 18,009 at the AAC.  Turco made 17 saves in regulation and blocked both Ducks' shots in the shootout.  After a  scoreless first period, Bobby Ryan put the Ducks up 1-0 with 6:32 off the clock.  Jamie Benn answered back  for the Stars at the 12:34 mark of the second period to tie things up.  Ryan helped Anaheim regain the lead at 15:16 in the third period before Modano shut them down.  At 18:13, Modano sent his first puck past Goalie Jonas Hiller to tie the game at 2-2.  The clock would run out on the tie game, forcing a shootout.  After Turco denied both Ducks' shooters in the shootout, Modano pulled on past Hiller to take a final victory at home.  Before the shootout goal, Modano had been 0-5 on the season.  Without a playoff berth, the Stars will travel to Minnesota for their final game of the season Saturday night.  For Modano, it will be like going back home, "The fans have been great ever since we moved and every time we return, it’s been a great reception. I’m guessing it’s going to be just as tough as tonight to say goodbye to them and what they meant at such an early stage in my life and career."

DALLAS  With their sights set firmly on the playoffs, the Chicago Blackhawks came out firing against the Stars Tuesday night.  Just 36 seconds after the start of the game, Marian Hossa fired one past Goalie Matt Climie, and with less than a minute remaining in the first period, Colin Fraser put the first of two goals through the net to give the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead.  Climie, a rookie, saw his fourth NHL appearance, and the only one this season as Turco and Lehtonen will finish out the Stars' final two games.  Jonathan Toews out a short-handed goal through the net 5:58 into the second period to increase Chicago's lead to 3-0 before Steve Ott pushed the first goal through for Dallas on a power play at the 7:02 mark.  Fraser popped the second of his two goals on the night past Climie early in the third period to go up 4-1.  Patrick Kane put the nail in Dallas' coffin with his 30th career goal at the 9:53 mark of the third.  Stars Left Winger Jamie Neal scored the final goal of the game off of a Brad Richards assist, which was Richards' 91st point, tying a career high.  Climie stopped 33 shots against the one of the highest scoring teams in te laegue.  As Dallas looks to wrap up their season, the Blackhawks have three games left to try to take over the first place seat in the West from San Jose.

DALLAS  Orlando's hot three-point shooting, and domination by Dwight Howard, was too much for the Mavs Thursday night at the AAC.  Howard put up 17 points along with 20 rebounds, the 40th 20 rebound game of his career, and five blocked shots in the game.  To their credit, the Mavs stayed on the Magic's heels through the first period of play, allowing Orlando only a two-point lead, 18-16.  Orlando began to pull away in the second period putting up 25 points to Dallas' 20 for a 43-36 lead at the half.  It was the same song, only a different verse for the Mavs in the third period.  Dallas, again, struggled offensively adding only another 20 points while defensively they lacked even more by allowing the Magic to score 29 points for a sizable 72-56 lead with one period of play remaining.  Dallas outscored the Magic in the fourth period, 26-25, but it was not near enough for the victory.  Nowitzki lead Dallas' scoring with 24 points and six rebounds.  The Magic's largest lead of the game was 18 points while the Mavs' was only three.  Prior to last night, Orlando had lost 11 of the previous 14 match-ups with Dallas.  Dallas has two games at home, against OKC on April 3, and Memphis on April 7.  Both games start at 7:30 p.m.

ALLEN  The Laredo Bucks were able to rally for a Game One victory in the Southern Conference Semi Finals.  The Americans held the lead at 3-2 until the Bucks scored two goals in the third period while holding Allen scoreless.  Allen took an early first period lead after a goal by Liam Huculak, unfortunately it didn't take long for the Bucks to answer back with a cut through the slot by Laredo's Mike Looby to even the score at 1-1.  With less than a minute to play in the first period, Laredo's Darryl Smith went top shelf and beat Allen's goalie, Chris Whitley, to go up 2-1.  Allen scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the second period and held the Bucks scoreless to take a 3-2 lead going into the final period of play.  Another shot by Looby brought the game to a 3-3 tie.  What would be the Buck's winning goal was scored by Neil Trimm with 10:50 left to play in the third period.  The Americans will face the Bucks for Game Two of the seven game series tomorrow, March 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Event Center.

DALLAS  The Stars were up 2-1 after the first period, but after a few touch breaks, they watched Philadelphia come back and take the eventual win.  The Stars were sitting in 12th place, and the loss kept them seven points away from the final Western Conference playoff spot which is occupied by eighth place Detroit, who did not play.  Even with a goalie who hasn't played since before Christmas, the Flyers were able to hold out.  The Stars sent three shots on Boucher in the last 80 ticks of the clock, but he was able to seal the victory with a save on Stephane Robidas' hard hit shot from the left face-off dot.  Steve Ott produced both goals for Dallas, the first with 17:55 to play in the first and the second at the 9:41 mark of the first.  Stars Goalie Kari Lehtonen is winless against the Flyers, having 10 lifetime appearances against them.  This game marked the first win for Philadelphia in Dallas since 1996.

FORT WORTH A beautiful, cloudless sky was the perfect backdrop for the Horned Frogs' clean sweep of the Texas Tech Red Raiders Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.  The Frogs wasted no time jumping out to a 5-0 lead after their first at-bat.  Right Fielder Josh Elander brought in Catcher Bryan Holaday to start the scoring frenzy.  A three-run homer over the center field wall by Jimmie Pharr brought in Elander and Left Fielder Jason Coats.  Shortstop Jerome Pena added a solo home-run to round out the runs at five.  Tech put up a run in the top of the second after a double down the left field line by Catcher Jeremy Mayo brought in Second Baseman Nick Popescu.  The Frogs put up two more runs in their half of the second inning.  Lead-off hitter Second Baseman Davy Wright singled up the middle to get things started.  A walk by Center Fielder Kyle Von Tungeln moved Wright to second.  A sac ground out by Holaday put Wright into scoring position at third base.  Coats then singled up the middle bringing in Wright and Von Tungeln.  A solo homer by First Baseman Matt Curry capped off the eight-run game for the Frogs.  Just three outs away from the clean sweep, the Red Raiders decided to give relief pitcher Eric Marshall some trouble.  Lead-off hitter Nick Popescu drew a walk and eventually scored on a single up the middle by First Baseman Stephen Hagen.  Another single through the left side by Third Baseman Justin Berry brought in pinch runner Garrett Totten.  After bringing in Kaleb Merck to pitch for Marshall, the Raiders managed to tack on two more runs after a home run by Right Fielder Jamodrick McGruder brought in Hagen as well.  Merck finally got a handle on the situation and shut down the Raiders before any major damage could be done.  TCU travels to Oklahoma Tuesday night to face Oral Roberts at 6:30 p.m.  The Frogs will return home for a three-game series against MWC opponent BYU starting Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

FORT WORTH After narrowly escaping a loss 8-7 Friday night, the Horned Frogs combined a little Irish luck and a lot of talent to blow out the Red Raiders Saturday afternoon.  A crowd of 3,363 looked on as the Frogs routed Tech in a two hour and four minute contest.  TCU Freshman pitcher, Matt Purke (Klein HS), pitched his first complete collegiate game.  Purke was a first round pick by the Texas Rangers, and went 14th over-all in the 2010 MLB draft, but wanted to be a Horned Frog more.  The game was scoreless through the first inning.  In the bottom of the second, TCU went up 1-0 as DH Jimmie Pharr blasted the first of two solo home runs in the game.  A scoreless third inning was followed by a blow-out bottom of the fourth as Catcher Bryan Holaday, First Baseman Matt Curry, and Right Fielder Josh Elander all crossed home plate to go up 4-0.  Tech's lone run of the game came in the top of the fifth after First Baseman Barrett Barnes homered over the left center field wall.  TCU increased their lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth when a fly ball by Matt Curry allowed Center Fielder Kyle Von Tungeln to score from third, and a passed ball allowed Holaday to come in.  Second Baseman Jerome Pena and Shortstop Jantzen Witte added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Pharr rounded out the TCU slam with another solo home run in the bottom of the eight inning.  The Frogs are back in action Sunday at 1pm to attempt a clean sweep against the Raiders.
